After sorting out my problems with OpenGL and Wine (it seems
"-fomit-frame-pointer" caused the regression - strange...), I tested the ASD
demos again, with the latest GIT (including your patch). The problem is still
there it seems. Only the grain effect and a handfull of images are visible.

I just tried Wine 0.9.21, just to make sure that the problem isn't related to
the environment - and it crashes the exact same way. I have absolutely no idea
what causes the problem, but it's probably related to my X.org installation
(updated to 7.1 a few weeks ago). I'll close the bug, sorry for wasting your
time... :(

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how to get usable debug output in this
case - I'm not much of a coder... :(
I tried killing the whole function in dlls/winex11.drv/opengl.c (removing
everything within the brackets), it still crashes exactly like it did
before...

This looks like the same problem I am having with Star Wars: KotOR I and II.
For Knights I, it starts going slow right after inserting disc 3 and continues
slow with disc 4 (both have wav files). Total wine install is about 16 hrs.
Probably a 15 min install on a Windows box.
Knights II, the problem starts on disc 4.
Again, CPU goes 100% installing these files. Interesting, though, the CD is
spinning so very hard for each file. Almost like it's searching the entire disc
for the file.
I have tried this on 0.9.21 and .22.
