tried latest CVS (10.03.2006)
updated with: cvs update -PAd
made the compile: ./configure; make depend; make
installed: make uninstall ; make install
tried to run the program:
FAILED, tray icon did not appear, program didn't start
tried to do a little debug session, but the program froze:
# winedbg /root/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/YPOPs/ypops.exe
WineDbg starting on pid 0xa
start_process () at /usr/src/wine/dlls/kernel/process.c:845
0x7fcb111f start_process+0xb7 [/usr/src/wine/dlls/kernel/process.c:845] in
kernel32: subl $12,%esp
845 ExitProcess( entry( peb ) );
Wine-dbg>run
WineDbg starting on pid 0xc
0x7fca111f start_process+0xb7 [/usr/src/wine/dlls/kernel/process.c:845] in
kernel32: subl $12,%esp
845 ExitProcess( entry( peb ) );
and here it froze, after 10 minutes i tried to do Ctrl-C
and got:
Ctrl-C: only stopping the first process
waited a while
then killed konsole.
I guess i'll get a wine 0.9.7 and compile it, and run ypops from source. And
the others i'll run them from latest wine.

(sorry for pasting the whole log in the comment section instead of an attachment)
Anyway, I've confirmed that using the latest HEAD of 3/10/06, and git-revert'ing
on that one single commit (576e3b706299f21897fc09c15b767fd79e701e79), the
problem goes away.

This is almost certainly a problem with your kernel, not with Wine. If you've
recently upgraded it, please try reverting back to the last kernel you had that
worked.

Summary: Exception when trying to install software (not happening
in older versions)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine-bugzilla(a)thequod.de
With 0.9.9 I cannot install Beyond Compare 2 anymore
(www.scootersoftware.com).
I get on the console:
$ wine ./beycomp24.exe
err:heap:HEAP_CreateSystemHeap system heap base address 0x80000000 not
available
err:heap:HEAP_CreateSystemHeap system heap base address 0x80000000 not

And then an error dialog titled "Application Error": "Exception Exception in
module is-4O02K tmp at 00051E05. CoInitialize failed (0x8007000E).
This also fails with an older setup binary of Beyond Compare, which I've
installed using wine (0.9.6 or something).
If needed, I could check which wine version won't fail, but that seems more
difficult as they are not available in the repo anymore.
I'm using Ubuntu Linux and the package from winehq.org.

I have found a way to reproduce the errors without sending you the whole CD but
the required files total about 81MB tar archive(gzip compressed).
