Summary: Wine CRASH
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.42.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P3
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jimmyhappyi(a)gmail.com
Wine crashes when I typed winecfg in a console. The backtrace is attached.
Wine version: 0.9.42
OS: Puppy Linux 2.17
--OS Specs (this is an OS not known widely, so I'll give specs)
--
--Kernel version: 2.6.21.5
--libc version: 2.3.5
GCC version: 3.4.4
Command run: "winecfg"
Reproducing the bug:
--
Download/burn Puppy Linux 2.17 from puppylinux.com.
Save a pup_save.2fs file by shutting down after it starts up.
Now it reboots. Boot up on CD again. Wait. Now go here:
http://www.pkagfiles.net/devx-unleashed-x8w/
Download devx_217.sfs.
Reboot again.
Now after CD boots up, download Wine.
Untar it.
Now "su spot".
Compile it using the preset tools/wineinstall script.
The script will halt after compiling.
Now type exit to get out of non-root account.
Get in the wine-0.9.42 directory if you aren't there and run make install.
After done, type winecfg. An error will appear.

Summary: Add environment variable to allow launchers to change
"working directory" for Windows applications
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: 07067514(a)brookes.ac.uk
A small number of programs make use of the "working directory" to find files
(example: MAME32++ uses it to find its configuration files) and WINE offers no
convenient way of changing this short of writing a script to move to the folder
with cd and launch the application, which is unpleasant and frankly
unnecessary.
I suggest a new environment variable, WINEWORKINGDIR, which stores this
"working directory" value (the default is the current working directory of the
terminal when WINE is run). This would allow launchers for WINE (e.g. in the
main menu) to change this, avoiding the need for cumbersome scripts.

I am trying to use an ISO image of C&C 95 from an smbfs mount as installer
media. I mounted the ISO image with the mount command on /mnt/isomnt, and I
have configured Wine drives accordingly, adding an entry for the aforementioned
mount point and setting drive type to CD-ROM. After setting Windows version to
Windows 98, I set my current directory in Terminal to /mnt/isomnt, and run wine
setup.exe. The InstallShield launcher loads, but after the installer finishes
unpacking files, a dialog pops up: "Unable to locate necessary files. Please
run Setup.exe from the CD-ROM disc." If the game is installed from an actual
burned CD, there are absolutely no problems. The game can now be obtained for
free from (http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/c_c/GDI95.iso) and
(http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/c_c/NOD95.iso).

loaddll tracing
This software is freeware, download it at
http://www.smartbridges.com/support/ab.asp it is a small program.
Error: Window pops up when starting simpleMonitor.exe warning that "Previous
instance of simpleMonitor is running, please close it and try again." On
clicking OK, the program exits.
Program is unusable in this state, it has zero functionality because of this
error. There are no helpful fixme warnings.
Possibly helpful info:
* As of version 0.9.44 this program now successfully installs. As of 0.9.43 it
did not install, so big improvement there.
* Some windows users had the same issue, described here
http://www.smartbridges.com/support/faq_ab.asp#46
* Some 3rd party DLL's seem to have been implemented here by the Dart
corporation, as viewed in a +loaddll debug
It's very important to me that this software is working because it's the only
way to manage AirBridge wireless radios and is most of my comany's wireless
infrastructure. I greatly appreciate your efforts in assistance, you guys are
great.
Thank you in advance!

Summary: steam crashes when installed to user's home and there is
a dosdevice symlink to /home/user
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.44.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert(a)gmail.com
i prefer to install games to my home directory, rather than the .wine
directory. however, there is a problem with Valve's steam application when
doing this.
i've set up a symlink to my home directory (so that steam will see the correct
amount of free disk space on that partition)
$ ln -s /home/user /home/user/.wine/dosdevices/h:"
to repoduce this bug, install steam (http://www.steampowered.com) to
/home/user/games. also make sure you've set up the symlink as above. then run
steam with
$ wine /home/user/games/steam.exe
you will get the error
Steam - Fatal Error
Fatal Error: Could not load module 'bin/vgui2.dll'
note that the problem does not occur if the symlink to /home/user is not set
up. however this isn't a solution because steam will refuse to install games
because it thinks that the free space on my / partition is the free space on my
/home partition.
thanks for all the hard work on wine.

Summary: Warcraft III freezes while loading a level in wine
0.9.46-48
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.48.
Platform: PC

Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary

Last 1000 lines of WINEDEBUG
Warcraft III freezes while loading a level ever since wine version 0.9.46,
including up to the latest 0.9.48.
To reproduce:
- Run Warcraft III with the command 'wine war3.exe -opengl'.
- Either start a new campaign or attempt to load a saved level. The level
loading bar gets to approx an inch from the end (on my 15 inch widescreen
monitor) and then nothing further happens.
- You can usually CTRL-C the wine command, but occasionally Gnome freezes and
the system has to be rebooted.
- I have tested with fglrx and open-source video drivers (for an ATI Radeon
mobility 9600 video card). The problem doesn't seem to be related to video
drivers.
- This happens both with compiz effects off and on.
- Using winecfg, I have tried emulating WinXP and Win2000, using ALSA and OSS
drivers, with and without audio emulation, with and without pixel shader, with
and without vertex shader.
- Note that Warcraft III runs fine in wine 0.9.45 using otherwise the same
configuration.
Version information:
wine versions affected: all after 0.9.45, ie 0.9.46, 0.9.47, 0.9.48
latest wine version tested: 0.9.48~winehq0~ubuntu~7.10.1
O/S: Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
