wine output
Command and Conquer 3 fails to launch - the splash shows up but then I get a
message box saying:
DirectX Error
Please make sure you have DirectX 9.0 or higher installed. Also verify
that your video card meets the minimum requirements, and that you do
not have hardware acceleration disabled in the Display control panel.
Graphics card is Quadro NVS 130 (Toshiba Tecra S5 laptop).
I copied the wine folder to my PC with GeForce 8800 GTX and it worked properly
there.

Changing title then. @Focht: found any way to work around this bug? Or is that
really impossible a.t.m.

Hello,
--- quote ---
I don't see anything referring to .net when trying to start the demo. However
it ends immediately like:
err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to
dispatch exception.
That's all :(
--- quote ---
Yes, the game has nothing to do with .NET technology.
Maybe the initial reporter wanted to express "network based application" and
didn't know that the term ".net application" has a complete different meaning?
Summary should be changed to disambiguate.
Anyway that game uses a custom PE protector, the retail version additionally
includes SecuRom 5.x
Although the section names indicate "xprot" -> x-treme protector it doesn't
seem to resemble the "real" Xprot.
Thats a common technique to look like other copy protection by using same
section names and entry signatures.
Probably to scare crackers away ;-)
>From looking frankly at the trace, the protector seems to mess up the exception
registration head (teb->NtTib.ExceptionList, fs:[0]) while executing code in
its virtual machine.
It points to nowhere, hence the "err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not
in stack limits" error.
>From reading some game forums, it seems the protection caused many issues on
windows itself, early versions seemed pretty unstable (a mess).
The demos are a bit old and are not updated anymore, maybe the retail stuff
runs better with newer patches.
Regards

Last 50,000 lines of trace+d3d output
Here's the last 50,000 lines of trace output from the 4.0GB File, including the
"err:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetLightEnable Too many concurrently active lights"
as well as plenty of lines preceding it...
Let me know if there's anything else you need such as more lines from the file.
I'll keep the 4.0GB file for now just in case. I've got plenty of space on my
hard drive. :)

yep, and that's what I was afraid of. It may have hit 4.0GB before the error
was traced, and I'm not sure what the behavior of the system is when it hits
the file system limit. Does it wrap around and start overwriting the dta at
the begining of the file or just stop appending? But I'll see what I can come
up with :)

I have also encountered the same issue trying to run my radar software
(www.grlevelx.com) in Wine. It claims "GRLevel3 only works with 16 or 32 bit
desktops. Change your display settings appropriately."

Was it exactly 4.0 GB? This sounds like you hit a file system size limit.
You can use tail to copy the last 50 or 100 mb into a separate file, then
compress this with bz2 or lrzip and attach it here.

How about this:
--- snip ---
Rules of Thumb for Triaging .Net Related Bugs:
If the app installs and runs properly on a clean .wine
with no user intervention, we can mark it as fixed,
regardless of whether the runtime that gets used is .net or mono.
(For instance, the app might be bundled with .net, or
wine might be bundled with mono.)
If the app does not come with .net bundled, but
installs and runs properly if .NET is
already installed, put it it category wine-dotnet.
(And for extra credit, mark it as depending on the most
appropriate .net bug (for 2.0, maybe bug 10467) and the
most appropriate mono bug (maybe bug 10307 ??, there
isn't really one),)
--- snip ---
