However, somewhere between 0.9.24 and 0.9.25, this was fixed.
Having said that, there's been another minor visual regression since then,
there's some "noise" near the beginning, and some textures are dark when they
shouldn't be, I'll bisect that regression in a moment (it happened somewhere
between 0.9.28 and 0.9.29).

This happens for me too, but removing the movies from the xml file as
described in the AppDB allows the demo to play without issues.

I'm running the Heroes V demo in a virtual desktop, and it has no trouble
changing to higher resolutions (I tried 1400x1050 and 1600x1200). I'm using
wine-0.9.30-g42dda83. I didn't try without virtual desktop, is this only
present without virtual desktop?

This works fine for me. I hit ctrl-p and opened up several different maps, I
didn't notice any slowdown. I also tried creating a new map, to much the same
effect. h3maped.exe is currently consuming <1% CPU time.

Also, is that a TTF font available through fontconfig, or a bitmap X11 font
with a custom encoding?

A proper locale identifier would be $LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8

This works perfectly for me with git as of a few days ago. I'm using Mesa
6.5.2 with an Geforce 6600 and the 9746 Nvidia drivers.

Titan Quest uses multithreaded d3d, and has other issues, see bug 5738.
