Some combinations of Vertex Shader Support (hardware, none) and enabling/disabling pixel shader causes the game to look like your screenshots. Tar was also throwing up a bunch of warnings about files in the archive being from the future, and it wouldn't surprise me if this somehow confused configure. The source of the problem was vmware - when you suspend a virtual machine, some strange things can happen to the system time unless you enable a certain option to keep it in sync. I reset the system clock on the VM and rebuilt the package, and all appears to be normal. Could you make sure there is no spelling mistake (check that the WINEDEBUG=+toolbar log is empty)? As the bug doesn't show itself always on the same moment, I may have marked good a revision which was not.
