If you only care about playing X-Wing: Alliance, you may find this helpful. I
managed to overcome the problem by installing wine 1.1.8 (which is affected by
the bug) and replacing /usr/lib/wine/dinput.dll.so with the one from 0.9.15,
which is not affected. Other versions may work too.

Counsole out
On launching the MassEffectConfig.exe it's start a scan and stop. A kill of pid
is the only method to stop it.
