Summary: winecfg audio tab crash
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mwatson33(a)comcast.net
winecfg crashes PC when audio tab is selected. Requires power off/on reset.
Work-around: mv /usr/lib/wine/wineoss.drv.so /usr/lib/wine/wineoss.drv.so.0
Once winecfg can't find wineoss.drv the probe completes and I can select alsa.
- POSPC PII MMX 350 MHz
- Debian (etch)
- 00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1968 Maestro 2
- 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX
400]
Audio works great under alsa.

Mike

Tried cs3 yet again, this time with
winetricks vcrun6 wsh56
and the hack from #65. By gum, the installer actually
makes progress now. It gets to the end and
reports

Has it done better for you?

Tested with vcsetup.exe for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition from:
http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/#webInstall
With latest git, (./configure && make && make install), hardiskvolume1 hack
(not using winetricks), I get that same dialog:
"A problem has been encountered while loading the
setup components. Canceling setup."
Dan, how did you get past that? Did it just automagically start working at some
point?

Yep, I can confirm this too, the blizzard 1.22 patch has solved some problem
with their net code in battle.net which means also improved pings for many
people.
Seems like this bug was related to it. For me wine 1.0 works fine.

I understood. And in the vbv case it's almost impossible to do any debugation
because all binary files there are striped debug symbols.
At http://200.183.118.67/kitwvbv200.zip have the brazilian version of vbv. All
exe files works only as cgi-bin in Apache using binfmt_misc kernel module to
associate windows binary files as linux native executables.

I don't I'm afraid - though it does work (pretty much) on an ATI X700 card.
Looks like it might be to do with the intel card / hardware then.
I thought that the intel drivers were supposed to be pretty good now that
they've been opened up etc...

Intel cards are pretty weak, and their drivers are known to not be completely
up to par on Linux. Any chance you could test this on Nvidia hardware?
