Requires power off/on reset. Work-around: mv /usr/lib/wine/wineoss.drv.so /usr/lib/wine/wineoss.drv.so.0 Once winecfg can't find wineoss.drv the probe completes and I can select alsa. - POSPC PII MMX 350 MHz - Debian (etch) - 00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1968 Maestro 2 - 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] Audio works great under alsa. By gum, the installer actually makes progress now. It gets to the end and reports Installation Completed Some problems occurred during installation. Seems like this bug was related to it. And in the vbv case it's almost impossible to do any debugation because all binary files there are striped debug symbols. At http://200.183.118.67/kitwvbv200.zip have the brazilian version of vbv.
