(It is a gradient that is partially transparent to the notes below creating a shadow/fadeout at the top and bottom of the screen). This box still sometimes disappears, but re-sizing the window can make it re-appear again (not sure if this is an issue within Windows) / it will be a separate WO if it is a WINE specific issue. However, disabling "Allow the window manager to control the windows" allows the game to run.
