Following the recipe in #15, it fails with
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse
L"Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.Deployment.CommonDialogs.resources"
and a dialog saying "cannot load resources from resource file, check your
Setup".
(This dialog is behind two other dialogs that say "Preparing installation".)

SetThreadIdealProcess returns success since wine-1.1.26-445-g20276d0, and
GdipBitmapGetPixel has been implemented since wine-1.1.29-533-g41140a9, so the
Microsoft Dynamics GP Standard demo installer should probably be retested.

I have to correct myself. It doesn't look like the -w and -h parameters work.
Leave those off and it should launch. You might be able to chance the
resolution within the game at that point.

I had the same error on the Steam Installed version.
If you are running freedom force in Steam you should be able to work around the
issue by running in windowed mode. Just modify the launch options,in the
general tab of the games properties menu, to include something similar to the
line below.
-windowed -w 1024 -h 768
You might be able to get it working in fullscreen mode without crashing using
some of the other launch options at
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947.
Good Luck.

Try the workarounds in http://wiki.winehq.org/256ColorMode (adapted to use
16bpp, of course).

I do have exactly this issue with wine 1.1.32: Both with and without WM
integration, the game starts with a black screen and some music (I'm not sure
whether there should be video here), and after clicking, I get some grey
artefacts in one corder of the screen and an "??? Unknown Exception" message. I
do have some error message about colour depth, but it comes already before the
music starts:
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 16x16x16
@0! (desktop)
I reverted my local wine sources to wine-1.1.25 and still have the same issue,
so I wonder what was done to fix it.
I still have to find out how to set my Desktop to 16 bit colour depth (startx
requires me to use root, and even if I "su" back to my normal user in that
session things don't work, wine says it can't find a display).

I can confirm this on Ubuntu 9.10 using Wine 1.1.32. Sound working during
install
but not under game.
Running winetricks for directx9 and mfc42 and adding the following DLL
overrides as native made the sound work:
dmime
dmsynth
dmusic
dsound
dswave
l3codecx
As per mizipzor's post.
