I get the same crash with older Wine versions as well (1.2.3, pre-1.0). To install the demo I used Wine-1.4 because of bug #30182. However, it starts fine after setting HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DataBasePath to "%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers".
