Tested this on Ubuntu using the WineHQ packages and on Arch using the regular Arch packages as well as a Wine I have build myself, they all behave the same. First discovered this trying to install Pizza Syndicate, a game with a 16 bit installer. (https://archive.org/details/computer-bild-spiele-2001-09). Than I ran into the same issue getting video to work for The Settlers 3 as it requires the icodecs package from winetricks, the first installer (codinstl.exe) is 16bit InstallShield. Finally I tried to test if it is only InstallShield that is crashing so I tried the Windows 3.1 Calculator (https://archive.org/details/calc_20200918) and it crashes too with the same message. All of the above software runs perfectly fine on Wine Stable (7.0.1), I would therefore classify this as a regression (if i could find the button in bugzilla). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. But when that happens, all my XWayland windows have Sims 4 cursor over it instead of my system cursor, making me unable to use my mouse to interact with said windows until Sims 4 unfreezes.
