Yes, WineEngInit function works with FreeType fonts.
To get more informative relay trace you can add relay channel, as:
wine -debugmsg +font,+relay sol.exe &> 1.log
Attach to the bug report 200 lines of the log before crash.
It is possible some fonts handling logic changes between the launches. I can
advise you to try to reconfigure Wine (generate new fake Windows directory and
config files in .wine directory). Backup your old configuration first. If that
works you can try to add back the applications and configuration from the backup.
Please report your progress.

Auke, do you still have the issue?
If yes, you can use regression testing to find the patch which broke the build
process. See the instructions here:

Just to be safe, check it with winearts enabled in the config.

No, I had KDE2 and there it worked OK. This happened after my transition to KDE3 (installed into RedHat 7.1). Now I have RedHat 7.3 -> a clean installation. Does it work?? -> Testing... -> Second test... Oh! Now the sound works, without having any WinMM section in the config. We shall see if I shall continue to have the same problems. If not, I cannot continue with the aid to solve this bug :-( It seems that for me it's resolved :-) But as I say, we will see. In RH 7.3, there's a new version of Wine (20020310). Probably this bug is alredy resolved here.

Did you try with a recent Wine CVS tree ? If yes, could you tell me what it
prints out now ?
Moreover, if you do not have neither FreeType nor Xrender, Wine should still
work fine, except you won't have support for either advanced font handling nor
anti aliased true type font display.

When the module map is set up in the first place 0x4239dc is int the range
0x408000 - 0x424fff So if I understand correctly it should be the default
exception handler that should catch this.
