I didn't do that, but I just did after first uninstalling wine and attempting
to uninstall the i386 architecture.  I got:

sudo dpkg --remove-architecture i386
[sudo] password for terry: 
dpkg: error: cannot remove architecture 'i386' currently in use by the database

This was after a reboot.
