Did you guys make sure you chose to save the colony?
Indeed I did. In Safe Haven I got the same everything-grey-except-the-glowing-effects seen in the screenshot. Haven's Fall was fine. SC2 in 1GB of RAM was swapping so much it was virtually unplayable, so I got more RAM. I didn't see a downside to trying Safe Haven one more time.
