Anouncing support for this format seems to uncover a bug in wined3d or the application. I think it's a bug in the application, simmilar to the R8G8B8 bug in Battlefield 1942, my radeon M9 claims not to support this format. P8 should work fine in wined3d, it works for all D3D sdk examples and games I tried like Tomb Raider 3 or Anarchy online.
