Apologies for the long wait - my system took a nosedive.

No change in Wine 7.9.

No, it crashes just loading. Sorry, I should have said that in the beginning.

Latest git FTBFS for me, but applying the (amended) patch to 7.9 works - there
is no crash and the app continues.

As things have changed a bit since the patch was made I swapped !hmem for
!handle.
