Does Wine require hardware accelerated OpenGL in order to display Chinese?

And after testing CXOffice the answer should be no, the following partially
works but some missing fonts and slow performance:

$ LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8 ~/cxofficebeta/bin/wine notepad
