--- Comment #21 from Terrance currter@gmail.com 2010-02-19 15:51:41 --- I just got another notebook: Dell XPS M1710 which is a 32 bit machine. I pretty much did the same installation procedure. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 via Windows (Windows boot loader) and then I installed wine 1.1.31 which came with the Ubuntu download then I proceeded to install Microsoft .net using the script you indicated winetricks dotnet20. I installed SlingPlayer and when I ran it, I got the same results: deficiency in wine.
My next step is to remove Windows from the entire scene and install Ubuntu directly on the hard drive partition and use Grub boot loader and see if I get the same results.
This is tiring. Maybe I am just doing something absolutely wrong.

I was just following the instructions off the internet to install SlingPlayer after installing Wine. SlingPlayer was the one that installed or attempted to install Microsoft +Net. Also, I thought I attempted to execute winetricks, but the command could not be found. The problem with this is that there are hundreds of ways people say to do things on the internet and nothing seems to be standardized with Linux out there to do things and installs properly. It becomes very confusing.
Currently dotnet runtime should be installed separately to avoid problems. To use winetricks you should obviously download this script first and set execution permission to run it. This is trivial if you are familiar with basic Linux environment. If you aren't please use Wine Forum or wine-users mail list for quick support.
