------- Additional Comments From reif@earthlink.net 2006-21-05 06:18 ------- For the record, there are at least three common DSOUND related messages reported here as bugs. For each of those messages, there is not one but several reasons why they are generated. Some of the messages are caused by bugs in the direct sound implementation but some are caused by wine audio drivers, some by the OS sound drivers and/or sound emulation layers and some are caused by the OS process scheduling algorithms. Lumping any report that has DSOUND in it together into a single meta-bug is good from an administrative perspective but they are not necessarily all duplicates. This makes it difficult to find the root cause of each report which will probably be different in each case. Even every me-too reply can have a different root cause if the application, OS or hardware differs in any way.
