Bug ID: 58591 Summary: Brother P-Touch Editor crashes Product: Wine Version: 9.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: air.lightz@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 79121 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=79121 description? is this a joke?
Tried to use Brother P-Touch Editor software to create shipping labels for work, and it fails catastrophically when trying to open it
I am using Linux Mint and installed wine with a simple 'apt install -y wine'
And I am a novice user, so no clue where to go from here
Also, this website is way too difficult to report bugs on, terrible UX and way to many hoops to jump through. The epitome of why people hate linux.
Good day

Might your version of Brother P-Touch Editor match one of these? https://support.brother.com/g/b/productseries.aspx?c=us&lang=en&pcat...

https://bugs.winehq.org is driven by Bugzilla which has successfully driven software projects for over 25 years. WineHQ uses an older version of Bugzilla which may be less user friendly compared to the latest version but functions mostly same way. Bugzilla method for bug tracking isn't very dissimilar to other bug trackers.
Upgrading WineHQ bug tracking is under consideration based on: https://gitlab.winehq.org/winehq/appdb/-/merge_requests/13
The epitome of why people hate linux.
Linux is for anyone but may not be for everyone.

way to many hoops to jump through
Compared to Brother website, WineHQ Bugzilla is practically hoopless.
Brother seems to require a serial number to download which is the biggest hoop blocking troubleshooting.
Depending on your model there may linux version available as the quickest fix: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=l...

Praise Internet Archive for hoopless and open Linux-like spirit: https://archive.org/details/pew54014us
Attached is Wine 10.11 (8fa114fae34 Shared WOW on Debian 12) reproduction of reporter's 9.0 backtrace.
Steps to reproduce: 1. Download: https://archive.org/details/pew54014us 2. Install: wine pew54014us.exe 3. Launch: C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother\Ptedit54\ptedit54.exe
Step 3 launch fails with backtrace.

--- Comment #4 from Stian Low wineryyyyy@gmail.com --- Created attachment 79123 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=79123 Wine 8 backtrace matching reporters 9.0 backtrace
Attached is a backtrace for wine-8.0 (Debian 8.0~repack-4) provided by Debian 12 that reproduces reporter backtrace for Wine 9.0.
Thus not a regression between 8.0 and 10.11+.

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- FYI, `winetricks vcrun2022` should work around it.
Also, in the future, please test with (at least) the current wine stable version (10.0) or development version (preferred), wine-9.0 is outdated.

FYI, `winetricks vcrun2022` should work around it.
Attached is a screenshot confirming `winetricks vcrun2022` miracle workaround to catastrophic backtrace.
Next step driver catastrophies and miracles.

See Mozilla for comparison of latest vs earlier WineHQ Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org
If "hoops" to report a bug are about same then Bugzilla is what reporter distains.
Gitlab is under consideration to replace Bugzilla eventually which may resolve whatever difficulties expressed by reporter: https://gitlab.winehq.org/winehq/appdb/-/merge_requests/13
