Wine 0.9.41 and later on SUSE 10.0 and openSUSE 10.2 resolve default "Arial"
font face to Courier-like Serif font. If there are TrueType .ttf fonts
installed in drive_c/windows/fonts, Wine resolves "Arial" to these graphical
symbol TrueType fonts instead, and winecfg and Rayfract(R) trial window text
becomes unreadable.

See e.g. Surfer 8 demo, http://www.golden.com . This installs TrueType fonts.

After configuring fonts for menus, title bars, message boxes and hints as "MS
Sans Serif" with winecfg 0.9.43, Rayfract trial text is readable. But Windows
text font and common dialog font (open file etc.) is not configurable with
winecfg and still is unreadable. Also, winecfg text is still shown as Surfer
symbols and unreadable.

After deleting these TrueType .ttf files in drive_c/windows/fonts, winecfg and
Raytrial work, but "Arial" window text and common dialog font is now resolved
to a Courier-like Serif font.

"Arial" was resolved fine to Sans Serif font for Wine 0.9.40 and earlier, even
with TrueType fonts installed in drive_c/windows/fonts .

Bad font display in winecfg 0.9.43 and "Open file" common dialog

Sreeen shot shows situation after configuring fonts as "MS Sans Serif" with
winecfg 0.9.43, but before deleting Surfer 8 TrueType fonts in
drive_c/windows/fonts .

See also bug 9260 . Specifying application font face "MS Sans Serif" instead of
"Arial" for LOGFONT.lfFaceName and CreateFontIndirect WIN32 API is a
workaround.

However, both Windows XP SP2 and Wine 0.9.43 will not regard LOGFONT.lfHeight
for  LOGFONT.lfFaceName "MS Sans Serif". LOGFONT.lfHeight is regarded when
specifying LOGFONT.lfFaceName "Arial" .

The latest version of our 2.75 trial at

http://rayfract.com/trial/RAYTRIAL.EXE

offers a flag in File menu : "Display annotations in Arial", once a profile
database (LINE14 or PALMFIG4 samples) has been opened :

- toggle this flag to switch between Arial and MS Sans Serif window body text
display

- redisplay currently opened sections with Window|Tile or Window|Tile
horizontally or just ALT-Y (with just one section opened)
