Bug ID: 57623 Summary: Approach welcome screen does not appear when rub from a virtual desktop Product: Wine-staging Version: 10.0-rc2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: ToddAndMargo@zoho.com CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Lotus Approach N99.8.0208.0800 (Smart Suite) Fedora 41 Xfce 4.18 screen resolution: 4096x2160
Reproduced under: WineHQ Staging: wine-staging-10.0.rc3-1.1.x86_64 winehq-staging-10.0.rc3-1.1.x86_64
Wine Staging Fedora repo: wine-9.15-1.fc41.x86_64 wine-9.15-1.fc41.i686
When Lotus Approach is started from a terminal directory, the welcome screen pops up. $ wine approach
But when Lotus Approach is started as a "virtual Desktop", it does not. $ cd .wine/drive_c/lotus/approach/ $ wine explorer /desktop approach
From Xfce Launcher: bash -c "cd $HOME/.wine/drive_c/lotus/approach; wine explorer /desktop=`date +%%H:%%M:%%S`_wine_virtual_desktop_1680x1050,1680x1050 approach.exe"
If you open a database, then close it, the welcome screen does pop up. I will attach a video of it.

--- Comment #1 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Okay, the bugzilla will not allow me to attach an .mkv 3 MB movie. If you give me an eMail address, I will eMail it to you or if you prefer, create an Ice Drive invite for you.

--- Comment #2 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- This is still an issue in wine-devel-10.1-1.1.x86_64
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57623
--- Comment #3 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Under wine-devel-10.1-1.1.x86_64 and NOT in a virtual terminal, this problem also persists
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57623
--- Comment #4 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- You know what, this is not the first time this happened. This happened under
Fedora 30 wine-core-4.15-1.fc30.i686 (staging)
Lotus Approach: Initial "Welcome" dialog not shown on startup https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47741
Maybe that fix will work here too.

Can you retest and confirm that the problem didn't exist in wine-9.1?
Maybe that fix will work here too.
What fix are you talking about? There's no anything in that bug report that could point to something that could be considered as a "fix".

No difference between 9.1 and 10.9

My recollection was that yo guys fixed it for me. The bug report does state "Status: CLOSED FIXED". I am not sure what you guys did to fix it.

According to https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47741#c10 ------------------------------ No longer an issue as of
wine-9.1-1.fc39.i686 wine-9.1-1.fc39.x86_64
which is the latest in Fedora repo ------------------------------ Isn't that your comment?

--- Comment #8 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Created attachment 78781 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=78781 Approach Welcome popup with out the "Explorer" option
Extra info:
Fedora 41 $ rpm -qa wine* wine-devel-10.9-1.1.x86_64
If suffering the high resolution graphics issues with smart suite and not using the "explorer" option, the welcome popup does occur :
bash -c "cd $HOME/.wine/drive_c/lotus/jumble; wine ./approach.exe"
The pop up paints to the upper right of the main Approach window instead of directly in the middle of the main Approach widows. See the attachment. (If you open and close a database [file-> close] the welcome pop up will paint right in the middle of the main approach screen.)
So perhaps with the "explorer" option the reason why the popup is not showing is because it tried to paint "outside" the "explorer" virtual window?
Here are some of the opening command line error messages when running Approach with the "explorer" opinion (ignore the "nNOTES.dll" message -- it is a bug in Smart Suite.):
$ bash -c "cd $HOME/.wine/drive_c/lotus/jumble; wine explorer /desktop=Approach_`date +%%H:%%M:%%S`_1680x1050,1680x1050 ./approach.exe"

wine-9.1-1.fc39.i686 wine-9.1-1.fc39.x86_64
which is the latest in Fedora repo
Isn't that your comment?
The is not an issue with the "explorer" option in Fedora 39 and Wine Staging 9.1.1, which is the latest Wine Staging in Fedora 39's repo.
This is an issue with the "explorer" option in Fedora 41 and Wine-Devel 10.9. (I have not tested it with Wine-Devel 10.10 as it is not in the repo yet.)
