Summary: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 - Dictation Box cannot copy/paste Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC URL: http://nuance.com OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-misc AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: susancragin@earthlink.net
The best way to enter text using DNS9 is with Dictation Box, a temporary window that is called into being with the voice command "Show Dictation Box." The box is supposed to close with the command Transfer, which is supposed to copy the text into a buffer and paste it into the current application, wherever the cursor was before DB was opened. The Dictation Box opens correctly, and text enters correctly. But the Transfer command does not place the text in any buffer at all -- the text just disappears, and DB with it. I have tried to paste into both DragonPad and Notepad. Neither works, although both should. I have run the program using a terminal. There is no output when the Transfer command is made. This is the terminal output when DB comes up.

(In an ideal world, Dictation Box should also be able to paste in regular X windows, but that's for the future.)

--- Comment #1 from Maarten Lankhorst maarten@codeweavers.com 2007-12-08 08:43:18 --- I've found a workaround for this bug.
In dictation box click settings. Select 'Use windows paste command' and 'Use windows copy command'. After this dictation box works for notepad at least.

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-06-03 15:06:04 --- Is this still an issue in 1.0-rc3? Sounds like a dupe of the other copy/paste bugs:

--- Comment #3 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2008-06-04 15:20:35 --- This bug should probably be closed out, and here's why.
Within WINE programs, copy / paste works using the following settings in DictationBox. --use Windows Copy Command --use Windows Paste Command
Copying and pasting from dictation box to non-wine applications is even easier, but it is tricky. To do so, leave all the dictation box settings at default. Then open dictation box and dictate into it (as I am doing now). Then, when you want to transfer text, hit the "transfer" button or say that word, and then immediately highlight where you want the text to go, and hit control V. The text will transfer. However, you only have about three seconds in which to transfer the text. After that, the buffer vaporizes. The copy/paste application is of course very useful in Dragon NaturallySpeaking, because that is what the program is for, to generate a lot of text and then put that text somewhere. I would not suggest closing this bug unless I were comfortable with the current solution. Having said that, I don't know if the other two applications have a problem similar to Dragon NaturallySpeaking or not. But I do believe that this particular DNS bug can be closed out.

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-01-18 03:47:08 --- Removing deprecated CVS/GIT version tag. Please retest in current git. If the bug is still present in today's wine, but was not present in some earlier version of wine, please update version field to earliest known version of wine that had the bug. Thanks!

--- Comment #6 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2009-01-23 16:14:09 --- I have changed the wine version and changed the severity from "normal" to "enhancement." In fact, there is an easy, permanent workaround for this. See Maarten's Comment 1. In version 10 the workaround is not needed because DictationBox's default settings work.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-07-30 11:58:43 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.26 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #8 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2009-07-30 12:24:05 --- No. This bug should be closed out. Cut & paste to non-wine apps works using DictationBox and a keystroke CTL-V.
