Summary: SimCity 3000 Unlimited crashes when loading Product: Wine Version: 1.3.3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: maclover490@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=30920) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30920) Wine 1.3.3 SimCity 3000 Unlimited stack dump
When I run SimCity 3000 Unlimited, the Maxis logo appears and the SafeDisc copy protection seems to work fine and then the game crashes. According to my amateur analysis of the stack dump, it seems to crash when loading simvariables.dll with an access violation.

--- Comment #3 from maclover490@gmail.com 2010-10-17 15:41:23 CDT --- The bug still occurs in Wine 1.3.5. I have done more analysis and believe that the crash occurs after the function msvcrt.??2@YAPAXI@Z() is called. I do not know what this function does as I am not a C programmer. My analysis shows that simvariables.dll does load successfully and the game crashes during initialization.

--- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2013-03-24 08:24:21 CDT --- This has worked fine for years.
Reopen if still a problem after making sure a NoCD does not solve it.

--- Comment #7 from maclover490@gmail.com 2013-06-30 18:01:58 CDT --- I had another chance to test this game, I tried with a NoCD patch and the game still crashes on 2 of my 3 computers. My old 2006 MacBook (with Intel integrated graphics) can run the game just fine (since Wine 1.3.23 at least), but on my desktop and my netbook (with dedicated graphics) the game just crashes with the same error I've been getting for 3 years now. I will attach a new stack dump, winedbg backtrace, and +seh,+relay log as well.

--- Comment #11 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2013-06-30 22:05:29 CDT --- Looks like a different problem, given the stack trace.
Can you reproduce it with the downloadable demo for the non-ultimate version, http://www.shacknews.com/file/758/simcity-3000-playable-demo-windows ? That works fine here for me.

--- Comment #12 from maclover490@gmail.com 2013-06-30 22:38:05 CDT --- The playable demo for non-unlimited SC3000 works fine here too. It seems that DLL doesn't even exist in non-unlimited SC3000...
