I admit, I cruise new blog posts just to see what people are writing about Wine.
Today I saw one ( http://www.ubuntux.org/shockwave-player-ubuntu-linux ) that says "I have discovered a way to get Shockwave working under Linux. I am using Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake), Wine 0.99.22, Firefox 1.5.0.7, and Shockwave 10.1.4.020.
1. Install Wine. ... Wine will automatically associate .exe files with itself. More information on Wine is available at http://www.winehq.com . 2. Download the Windows version of Firefox and install. Wine will ensure the installer functions correctly. 3. Install the Windows version of Shockwave for Mozilla. I downloaded and installed it manually (slim install).
After these steps, I had a working Shockwave player from within Firefox. "
Now that's the kind of user story I like to see! - Dan

And another one, in French, for Flash 9 instead of shockwave: http://devil505.blogspot.com/2006/10/en-attendant-flash-9-pour-linux.html
It's nice to see that people find Wine easy enough to use to load stacks like Firefox+Shockwave and Firefox+Flash. - Dan
I wonder if we can get the shockwave player working with the linux version of linux via some kind of wine layer instead of installing firefox for windows.

If you'd like to duplicate effort... nspluginwrapper (http://www.gibix.net/projects/nspluginwrapper/) might be a good place to start.

I was working on ddraw overlays the last 2 days which would help getting them working, but I have to pause my efforts until the wined3d->wgl move is done.

Some time ago I was told about http://www.konqueror.org/announcements/reaktivate.php , it's supposed to do exactly what you want, but I never tested it. Perhaps some one should dust it off and get it into wine...

Funny, I did the same thing at one point. Worked well but was slow.
I ended up using Shockwave in a VMware session because it was just infinitely faster than using Shockwave by means of Wine.
I think I was playing the game at www.isketch.net. It was unplayable with Wine, but worked fine (= fast) in VMware. Wonder why.
It might be an idea to look into it, start ie or what ever your using with debug flags and see whats happening. there might be an error which doesn't kill wine but slows it down in an important way.
