Does this work for you? I found the GUID_DMUS_PROP_Volume only in the logs of Empire Earth Demo.
And there it gets filtered out by IKsControlImpl_KsProperty():

The IKsControl iface in the IDirectMusicPort implementation should forward most likely to the one in the synth.
