The errors you are seeing is because you are missing some entries in your registry. I concluded It must be DirectDraw, because I can't tell any visual Difference or a Difference in Speed independent of the Graphics Driver choice( Direct Draw HAL or User/GDI ). Max Payne2 at least reports it as Direct3D HAL , which is a bit clearer.
