Oh, I see that you have already filed the bug. This is due to copy protection
as mentioned in bug 2977. I have attached it to ou games metabug, so that it
can eventually be fixed. For now, you will need a no-cd patch, which can be
obtained from megagames.com or gamecopyworld.com

how odd. updating the kernel fixes the problem? Maybe I should forward that to
the devlopers just to see what they say? Either way, if the game now works,
this can be resolved. I would say to monitor wine-devel for the kernel update
fixes a bug? topic, to see if we should report that as a bug.. As far as the
game CD not being recognized, the game crashed before it would get to that part
before your update, and now that it gets there, the copy protection of the game
kicks in and therefore won't allow the game to run, as wine does not have much
copy protection support at the moment. You can open a new bug for that, and put
bug 1434 in the "Bug x blocks" field, and it will eventually be fixed, but for
now you will be stuck having to use a no-cd patch. Check either
gamecopyworld.com or megagames.com for that...

If anyone who has ever watch this bug still actively monitors the bugs, and
receives this, could you please test the program on a recent wine build?

These 2 do not appear to be related, as noted in 469. This one does not seem to
be actively worked on, but you never know...

Er...yeah. I'm new to CVS and I just started using linux 3 weeks ago or so. I
uninstalled the wrong rpm...
Uninstalling the RPM, and then using the wineinstall script in the tools
directory helped a lot. I suppose I was stupid and just did ./configure && make
depend && make && make install ._.

Well, I built the binaries from CVS, and I still get the errors. There is a good
chance that I'm doing it wrong though. I uninstalled the RPM, and installed the
CVS binaries.

The bug does not appear anymore at the moment. I updated the kernel with yum,
and now I get no errors when running the game. I get that same destroy child
objects line, but now the game gives a messagebox, saying it isn't detecting the
Cd in the drive. I'm not sure if updating the kernel fixed this error, or if
something else happened when I did yum update that caused wine to not be able to
find my CD. I've tried uinstalling and reinstalling the game to no avail.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

Well, I can't be much more specific. I run the homeworld 2 game exe, and it
comes around asking for the CD. The CD is in my only CD drive, and it can't find
it. But I can install from CD.
