Although, deleting .wine is pretty drastic, as that will wipe out the other 5 or
more windows applications I have loaded. i guess if that's the only solution
then I'll give it a try.
But just curious, why is that necessary ?

Invalid. You need to rm -rf .wine before you run the installer. I just ran the
installer and it worked perfectly. To run the app you need native mfc42.dll and
msvcirt.dll.

Download the fully functional trial version of IMS webengine (V2beta) from here
http://www.virtualmechanics.com/downloads/index.html
I have used IMS Webengine for about three several years now, previously on a
windowsXP system. The earlier versions loaded correctly under wine but did not
use msi. The version mentioned above (V2.00k) does use msi and fails to install.
The actual program run perfectly (except for a minor icon display issue which
has a workaround).
The only other thing stopping it from getting a platinum rating is that it fails
to install. There are numerous msi errors to give you something to work on.
When you download the program from the website you actually download a 141K file
called SetupWebEngineV200k.Exe. When you run this under wine, it then downloads
an msi file called WebEngineV200k.msi (approx 4.6MB). So far so good. There are
a few errors displayed in the console window as shown below but the file seems
to download correctly.
Here's the errors so far..... (please note there is comments I have added in the
middle of the errors and comments at the end.

So far so good, at this point you now get a dialog box that asks whether you
want to remove or repair Web Engine V2. If you select repair then the following

fixme:actctx:ReleaseActCtx 0xf00baa
Another dialog box appears saying it's been successfully installed !, which it
plainly hasn't.
Also see the AppDB entry for this program
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=3152 The AppDB page shows two earlier
versions which installed and worked correctly. V2.00f & V2.00j.
So apart from many msi errors, the show stopper seems to be ..
err:msi:msi_make_package_local Unable to copy package
(L"\4460X\00a0\0011://download.virtualmechanics.com/download/install/webenginev2/200k//WebEngineV200k.msi\4d18X\00a2"

Because the msi file WebEngineV200k.msi, does appear to download correctly, if I
then execute it with the command ....
msiexec -i WebEngineV200k.msi
these are the errors I get ...

For Multiplayer Demo 1.0 define the DEBUG_SINGLE_MODE in dlls/wined3d/directx.c.
That works around the problem (not tested for non demo). There's something wrong
with the display enumerating, but I haven't narrowed it down.
