Please completely remove ~/.wine directory and try running your msi installer.
And attach backtrace again. Also please upgrade Wine to at least 0.9.26.

You give me too much credit - I have not got into the compiling business at all
- I'm not brave enough to try that yet. I am using the wine rpm "wine -
0.9.25-1.fc6.i386.rpm" fetched for me by yum from the fedora extras repositories.
I'll try the other suggestion and post feedback on that later.

I remember such bug from using somewhat older Wine. I worked around it by
overriding MSCOREE to be not loaded at all:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES='mscoree=""' wine InstMsiA.exe

You seems to have improperly compiled Wine. Please download and install binaries
for your distro.
If you need help with using Wine, please use wine-users mailing list, or #winehq

Summary: NFS Underground2 crashes when no synth module loaded
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.27.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cencer(a)poczta.fm
OS: Slackware 11.0
Kernel: Linux 2.6.17.13
Affected wine versions: 9.27, 9.26, 2.25 (checked only on these)
Sound card: SBLive!
When alsa driver is selected and emu10k1 synth kernel module is not loaded, game
crashes at the beginning. Loading module, or disabling all audio drivers in
winecfg fixes the problem. I think this bug could affect other apps, but I got
no other to check.

Hi,
First of all, thank you for working on this product. I am trying to get
SOMETHING working on Wine and have not been able to so far (including IE6).
Since I'm new to wine, I suspect I have not configured it properly.
I was trying to set up msi overrides as described at this link:
http://wiki.winehq.org/NativeMsi
I deleted my .wine to get rid of all old stuff and started winecfg. I set wine
to run as Windows 98 and selected msi from the "New Overrides for Library" drop
down list on the Library tab. I then exited by clicking the OK button.
Next, I removed the ./drive_c/windows/system32/msiexec.exe files and copied the
InstMsiA.exe file from the site in that order. When I run wine InstMsiA.exe I
get the errors in the attached file. Is this expected?
I did get a windows/Installer/InstMsi0 directory with a bunch of files under my
drive_c at the end of this though.

Same here: Nvidia drivers, SoF II gold installer (loki). The game doesn't work
with 0.9.26, going back to 0.9.23 does the trick.
I didn't test 0.9.25 but since Timo has the problem with that version I assume
it'd be the same.
