Hi Jon, i just saw that this games comes with its own msvcrtd.dll. So no need to
download that one (better remove the downloaded one from
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/). just do (copy & paste)
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Rubies\ of\ Eventide/
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrtd=n" wine RubiesLauncher.exe
That should get you into the login screen. Does that work?
Saulius: i'll attach log hereafter.

Yes, Star Trek: Bridge Commander is affected by this bug. The "fake" pointer it
creates hardly moves at all without a patch similar to the proposed one.
Several people in the BC clan I play with sometimes (|SoK|) use a similar patch
that I put together for them a month back or so, apparently to no ill effect on
other games. Basically every time BC polls the cursor, then warps it back to
the center and moves its fake cursor on the screen (it acquires in relative
mode, and fakes absolute mode for the menus only). This makes wine's code
(which only triggers every 10ms) think that it hasn't moved (since it's been
warped back a dozen times since the last 10ms interval), and wine never reports
any movement except for in the tiny gap between the last warp before the 10ms
interval, and the interval itself.

Louis Lenders:
Thanks for the clarification. Running the game with this setup got me some new
information. Wine gave me some new errors which I have attached (labeled as
'Wine errors) and the game itself actually caught itself for something and also
created an error log, which I have also attached.
saulius:
*(Can anyone, please, try running app with
*WINEDLLOVERRIDS="msvcrtd=b;dinput=n" WINEDEBUG=+msvcrt,+relay)
I'd love to help out as much as I can, but I'm afraid I'm new at this and not
exactly sure what you would like me to enter here. I tried running
"WINEDLLOVERRIDS="msvcrtd=b;dinput=n" WINEDEBUG=+msvcrt,+relay" and
"WINEDLLOVERRIDS="msvcrtd=b;dinput=n" WINEDEBUG=+msvcrt,+relay Rubies.exe". In
the first case nothing seemed to happen and in the second case I got an error
saying something about Rubies.exe command not found. (I figured you didn't mean
the second, but just wanted to make sure. I had tried both commands before
copying any errors down so the 'Wine errors' attachment came after running both
commands. It is far from having output in the thousands, though, so I figured
that I'm still not doing it the right way.

I just tried the latest wine-cvs (Monday May 15th, 2006 at 19:00) and it seems
to be partially fixed. The installer starts now but just before the installer
starts installing it hangs. Directory selection isn't possible either anymore,
when trying to do so wine crashes then with an error aswell. Included are the
log files from GTA San Andreas and Jedi knight 2: Jedi Outcast while crashing
when trying to select a directory.

yes seems like some of those installers fail later but they used to work in Wine
0.9.12
starting up works now.
