Hey, even now, the wsh installer doesn't set
HKLM\SOFTARE\Classes\WScript.Shell\CLSID
It creates that key, but doesn't give it a value.

Summary: older D3D games slowed down after upgrading wine from
0.9.15 to 0.9.16
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.16.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: huivzhopu(a)hotmail.com
I'm using binary packages for Slackware as provided on winehq.org website.
For example, this Tomb Raider 2 demo
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,4438,00.asp
Inside the game itself, I enable hardware acceleration, 1024x768 hicolor and
fullscreen.
Under wine 0.9.15, the gameplay is smooth without any lag whatsoever.
Under wine 0.9.16, I have 99% CPU utilization and it feels like only 5 frames
per second.
Turning sound off (from within game), does not help. Also changing settings
(windowed vs fullscreen, resolution, etc) does not change speed at all. E.g. at
320x200 resolution the speed is still extremely slow. I removed the binary
0.9.16 package, re-installed 0.9.15 and verified that game speed returns to
normal. Installed 0.9.16 and again, speed dropped.
Same problem occurs in a few other games, however this Tomb Raider demo is the
only one that I found to be publicly available.

Summary: cscript.exe from WSH (Windows Scripting Host) can't even
print a banner without native ole32
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.16.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
In windows, download the Windows Scripting Host 5.6 for Win2K
installer from Microsoft. Reboot into Linux, then install as follows:
rm -rf .wine
notepad (and quit immediately)
cp MFC42.DLL .wine/drive_c/windows/system32/
wine installers/WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script56-KB917344-x86-enu.exe
The install completes successfully. Now try to run it:
wine .wine/drive_c/windows/system32/cscript.exe
This should print a banner, but doesn't.
Installing DCOM98 and setting ole32 to native as follows rescues it:
winecfg (set win98, and set ole32 to native only)
wine DCOM98.EXE
wine .wine/drive_c/windows/system32/cscript.exe
The latter command now prints a banner as expected.

The process_args function of msiexec.c has a bug in it. I've made a patch that
uses shell32.CommandLineToArgvW instead of process_args, and it works now. I'll
send the patch shortly.

Installing Acid Pro 6 demo,
$ wine acidpro60a-trial.exe
starts off well, but then it
gives a dialog box saying
"The Microsoft Windows Installer Service must
be installed on your system. This may require you
to reboot... Do you wish to install this service?"
If you say ok, it thinks for a while, says
fixme:msiexec:main /regserver not implemented yet, ignoring
fixme:msiexec:main /unregserver not implemented yet, ignoring
and fails with
"The Microsoft Windows Installer Service failed to
be installed. This installation can't continue."

I downloaded the D2Loader script and followed the directions, but for some
reason, still get the "Hey guys" error when I try to connect to Bnet. I even
tried starting D2, renaming the Game.exe myself, and clicking Battle.Net, and I
still got the same error message!
When I try to just run Game.exe.orig, I get this:
Unknown device ID 5462, please report. Assuming plain R300.
