I had this same problem. Try and switching to virtual desktop in winecfg and run
the game. Quit it as soon as it loads, then winecfg and switch back to normal
mode (NOT virtual desktop) and it usually fixes it for me.

So as a test, I ran winecfg and changed my settings to use the virtual desktop
at 1024x768 (which was the setting the game was running at). Interestingly
enough, the game played just fine, no crash, no nothing. I'm going to try and
switch back to NOT using the virtual desktop to see if it was a configuration
corruption problem with the wineserver.

The fact that it is painfully slow might be caused by the fact that hardware
acceleration is not enabled; If i install the game, and run the first time i get
a configuration screen. It says right there: "Shaders: NOT Detected". I guess
something goes wrong right there.

Summary: Unhandled division by zero

I have tried running Maple V Release 3 GUI Win 16 executable:
#wine /dosc/maplev3/bin/wmaple53.exe
under Fedora Core 4 (double core processor, 3 GHz), using the yum updated Wine
0.9.20.
It seems unable to slow it down as I get the error message:
"wine: Unhandled division by zero at address 0x11ef:0x0000f1c9 (thread 000c),
starting debugger..."
I will attache the debugger output when I realize how to do it.
Regards, Alejandro

OKAY, more data.
I was testing to see if it could play again (after like 10 restarts in 10 days
of not playing at all...not even loading the game up), and it worked better than
a charm.
Then it crashed after about an hour of gameplay...hey...it happens. Then after a
reboot, I ran it the same way I always do, and it came up as 1024x768 (which is
correct) but in the upperleft part of the screen and leaving my desktop in tact.
What I mean to say is that it was NOT running fullscreen (as I have told it to
with the launch options). So it loaded and I quit, openned up the games list in
steam again and ran it again: same result. However, after I quit HL2 again, I
decided to restart steam, maybe it was a wineserver bug.
System crash...
Lame. So I tried to reboot only to have a problem with fsck's manditory 30 day
check and my AMDx2 processor creating kernel panic EVERY TIME (another bug for
another forum, but sort of icing on the cake, none-the-less). After working
around the fsck problem, I booted up and the screen loaded the same way, the
error way, only this time I exitted steam after I quit HL2. I'll try a restart
thinking maybe it was just a wine error or something. More to come as I test...
this bug is annoying, but interesting.

Hmmm - looks like the previous post was incorrect - I just needed to run
autoconf before doing the configure, and then it worked again.
I have re-run bisect again - this time running autoconf each time before the
configure/make clean/make depend/make
It appears the patch below is causing the issue. Will investigate further.

I probably should have noted that after Wine 0.9.6 or so I was able to
successfully install WMP9 and use WMP dependent applications. I have to use
native msxml to make the installer work. For runtime, native qedit and quartz
are required (builtin quartz crashes as of 0.9.18).
