The viable option is to NOT have your user be in the disk group and DEFINITELY NOT run as root. If you must have you user in the disk group, then setup a chroot environment for wine so that it cant access /dev/hda. Before this you will probably need native Dcom installed [3]. I've made similar workaround with VBScript.dll yesterday. And yes, I agree Wine needs own scripting engine probably made using SpiderMonkey [4].
