And I'm sorry I assumed all games work in the same way when they don't. I've only ever seen wine behave in one way: by warping the pointer back to the windows centre. This bug is the departure from that behaviour. All I needed to hear was: (1) Duplicate of 6971. (2) Judging by the description, AvP probably doesn't use dinput warping. I imagine a whole swathe of regression bugs turning up isn't fun, but I'm just trying to help out.
