Summary: Unreal Tournament: dinput mode makes game unplayable
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.56.
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
Hi there,
new Unreal Tournament bug after the "error on exit" bug was fixed. This one is
different however, because it has to do with input.
The problem is that once you active direct input in the UT configuration menu
and restart (so the change becomes active) the input sort of stops working.
What exactly happens:
I'm currently not talking about being in-game. I'm just in the menu where you
land after pressing ESC in the intro sequence. Upon pressing ESC you end up
with the cursor in the upper left position on the virtual windows (currently
using virtual desktop, so debugging is easier).
The first entry of the game menu is opened automatically (Game), and I can now
move the cursor through the opened game entry, selecting the children. Or I can
move over to the next entry (Multiplayer, Options, Stat, Tools, ...) and select
children there.
OK, this is when dinput is OFF.
Now I go into the options, activate dinput and leave the game. Then I start the
game again and encounter this.
Upon pressing ESC the cursor is still transferred to the upper left position
and the menu opens.
What is different:
When clicking the menu "away" (click on non-menu components) and then trying to
open them again (by clicking on them) the menu item won't open (no drop-down
effect). I can hear the soundeffect of the menu opening, but nothing more. I
can even click something (suspecting that the menu is invisible, but there). So
the only thing I can do is switching the app to window mode (there is a button
in the upper right corner that does that) and then use the X-button on the
window to close the application.
Another difference is that marking checkboxes doesn't work anymore. I was going
to make another try and restarted the app, this time moving right into the
config menu to deactivate input. This works, because ESC always lets the menu
pop up. However removing the tick from the checkbox proved to be impossible.
I had to modify the UnrealTournament.ini to switch dinput off.
I created a log from the dinput run, going to attach this.
Greets,
Tobias

This image displays the bug. Note the black rectangles.
When somebody is hit in TF2, black rectangles instead of the fitting sprites
are displayed. I have attached a screenshot of this bug to show you its
behaviour.
I am using the latest version of TF 2 and the proprietary Nvidia drivers that
come along with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
If you need additional information feel free to ask me.
This is my first bug report at winehq, hooray ;-). I am sorry if it does not
meet the quality standards, but I'll try to improve my next bug report if you
let me know what/if I did anything wrong.

I tried fbo, pbuffer and backbuffer with both GLSL enabled and disabled.
I used the native d3dx9_27.dll and d3dx9_36.dll.
I attach a normal log, a compressed WINEDEBUG=+all log and an NVIDIA bug report

Summary: Dragon Naturally Speaking 7: Regression
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.9
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mdirk(a)sympatico.ca
Even though I had bought only "Dragon Naturally Speaking 7: Essentials", this
version used to work fine under Wine 1.1.7 . Thus, I had assumed to expect the
behavior to have been improved enough for the Essentials Edition to work from
now on.
But after upgrading Wine to version 1.1.9, a Regression took place. Still
installed properly, and having a user profile for me, DNS 7 no longer works.
The behavior is that after launching, the message appears "Initializing
Dictation". But this message stays, which should get replaced by something
else. For a fraction of a second, the toolbar menus become fully colored, which
would indicate that the program is ready for use. But next, the toolbar becomes
grayed again, and does not respond to input of any kind. The icon indicating
whether the microphone is switched on or not, stays unfilled. And trying to
position the mouse cursor over the toolbar, causes the Linux cursor to
disappear, for which reason the menus can also not be clicked on. Keyboard
shortcuts don't work. The system tray icon also stays unreachable by the mouse,
only displaying a trivial balloon but no menu. The toolbar fails to reposition
itself as it did before, onto any available window awaiting a dictation.
And after about a minute, the application dies.
Trying to re-establish an OSS sound driver audio profile succeeds with the
message that "The sound quality is unacceptable." But then trying to establish
an ALSA sound driver audio profile causes a crash before the new profile gets
saved. In this mode, the main toolbar has already gone into its unresponsive
mode, but control over the app's events is taken care of successfully by more
normal-looking windows.

Summary: Serious Sam TFE lockups and input delays
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: zarquon(a)t-online.de
Serious Sam TFE will frequently freeze for a short time for no apparent reason,
after which all user input is severely delayed (feels like the time of the
freeze approximately). So you end up pressing a key or moving the mouse and one
or three seconds later Sam moves. In between the freezes, the game is
completely smooth with no hints of stress. Strangely enough, loading such a
game will continue with the delayed input. Sometimes the game appears to catch
up again (I think prolongued time in the console is what does the trick), but
not for long. Resolution doesn't have anything to do with it, the same thing
happens in 640x480 and besides I've played Far Cry and Prey on this machine (in
my standard resolution of 1600x1200) without problems, so I doubt the machine
is too weak. I tried using native dinput.dll and msvcrt.dll, but that didn't
change anything. The game states it uses OpenGL for GeForce2 on my GeForce7900,
could this be a problem? I also tried disabling sound or using other network
devices, but to no avail either. Anything else I can try?
I'm aware of the native Linux ports, but these are highly beta and it doesn't
look like they'll finally be finished one day. They only work in 640x480, you
frequently fall out of the level and need console cheats to get back in, and
other stuff doesn't work at all (like the end fight). I was hoping to finally
be able to play the game as it was meant to be played...
