The program tells it is performing an temporary install but nothing happens then. Clicking on the demo button just does nothing. The good news is that the games itself seems to work. After several years of test, I just achieved for the first time to take off with the plane and land and take off again ! This time I ran Apprentice with the show desktop option enabled and I only get one window in the window manager, not two as before. In addition, resizing the Apprentice window also resized the chat window. However the focus option is still being ignored.
