It DID work properly up to 1.2rc7 , now game music works fine and some of the audio fx too but then there are some particular audio fx that are not played. It is always the same sounds that do not work (e.g. the sound of the balls rolling, ray powerup, etc). Using ALSA output (using other outputs did't work for me). Running Ubuntu 10.04 with all updates up to 10/07/2010. As I recall correctly I have only one crash but I might be wrong (tendency to zero crashes). It's same for all games and the only exceptions are a program, it's Reason4.
