The cause of this problem is well understood * it isn't about the number of vertex shaders. Only one vertex shader can be used at a time. This is about the number of vertex shader constants(kinda like read only global variables read by a function) * it is not clear if the graphic bugs are caused by the hack or is entirely unrelated. The hack is not in wine because it is an incorrect hack, not because Sims 2 doesn't render properly with it. Even if Sims2 worked perfectly with that hack it would not be committed. * DirectX 10 capable nvidia cards(geforce 8+) support 1024 vertex shader constants, so they should work around the SW vertex processing bug. The current patch creates massive graphic flaws, and thus has not been incorperated. The exact bug has been identified on a similar bug on the full version of Sims 2. Wine is limited to the number of vertex shaders supported by the graphics card at once, while Windows can emulate as many as are requested by the program. The game is installed and I can run steam (it is currently running) however once I click the link to play Magicka the screen pops up saying: Preparing to launch Magicka... that stay for a few seconds as usual - then nothing. Once that screen vanishes the game doesn't load - and none of my computers resources are being used for it so I know it hasn't loaded.
