Cool! Thanks for the testcase. I hope someone has time to look into this soon.
(Adding keyword vb6 for ease of searching.)

Wine should be able to compile with at least some optimization.
http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-4.1.0/gcc/Optimize-Options.html#Optimize-…
lists what each optimization flag does.
-Os doesn't look terribly dangerous except that it turns on
-fstrict-aliasing, which many apps aren't ready for.
What happens if you try -Os -fno-strict-aliasing ?

Summary: ActivePerl batch installer fails with cmd.exe error
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/
ActivePerl-5.8.8.817-MSWin32-x86-257965.zip
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Because the MSI package wouldn't install, I tried the non-msi installer,
http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/ActivePerl-5.8.8.81…
This unpacks to a directory with a batch file you're supposed to run.
The batch file does things like copy with lots of options
(which probably won't work), but I tried it anyway with
wcmd /c Installer.bat
but it fails early because it has trouble running a subshell.
Seems like wcmd.exe needs a bit of work before it can handle this.

Summary: Windows Scripting Host installs but doesn't work?
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID
=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
The activeperl msi installer
http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/ActivePerl-5.8.8.81…
failed because it wanted Windows Scripting Host installed.
I found a copy of the Windows Scripting Host 5.6 for Win2K installer and
ran it without any trouble. I verified that cscript.exe appeared in
windows/system32.
However, running cscript.exe with no arguments didn't print out
a banner, as it's supposed to according to
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en…
And ActivePerl still things WSH isn't installed; running with +msi
shows
trace:msi:MSI_GetPropertyW returning L"Absent" for property L"WSCRIPT.SHELL"
right before it aborts.
Something seems awry here...

Then it looks like something is wrong with your video card drivers. Something
could be missing/improperly installed.

Looks like you're using native advpack, which isn't necessary anymore to install
IE6. Either change the settings in winecfg to use builtin advpack, or remove
your .wine directory and start fresh with wineprefixcreate.

I can confirm that commit fe99f330ab9caad8ebcd18ce3f27db0e9007a226 causes the
Pacific Warriors 2 demo installer to hang in the "Removing applications" dialog
until IDriver.exe is killed manually

Just tried it with the override and I get:
----
alienjon:~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Rubies of Eventide
#WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrtd,dinput=n" wine RubiesLauncher.exe
Extracting rez file SoundFX.rez to directory c:\Program Files\Rubies of
Eventide\rez\SoundFX
Finished extracting 9 directories 355 resources
Rez File Size = 25180105
err:module:import_dll Library DINPUT.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Rubies of Eventide\\Lithtech.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program
Files\\Rubies of Eventide\\Lithtech.exe" failed, status c0000135
---
The icon that is created on the desktop, by the way, starts the launcher just
fine, but then doesn't load the game when I try to launch it. In addition,
removing the dinput=n repeats the original error (I tried this because this last
error mentions it)
(I am using wine-0.9.12, by the way)
