The failing assertion is just a symptom of the real problem. That vlc starts with my code is just because such an assertion isn't there, but not because the bug is fixed. Must be a bug in msvcrtd.dll as the app starts fine with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrtd,dinput=n" wine RubiesLauncher.exe (the dinput override is for a centered mouse problem).
