Summary: Retail game Prey fails to run, demo works well
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.17.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chizu(a)spicious.com
Although the demo works really well, the retail DVD release of Prey exits
silently on wine 0.9.17 and 0.9.15.
Attached is the log of warnings from the retail game from 0.9.17.
WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine prey.exe
The warning "warn:driver:CloseDriver Failed to close driver" occurs just before
the retail copy exits, this warning doesn't happen with the demo. All other
warnings up to that point are identical.

I just tested with 0.9.17 (well, cvs from a few hours after 0.9.17),
and mdac-2.7, no patches needed.
Running the app exits early just as before, but with fewer warnings.
Here's all that's output now:
fixme:system:SystemParametersInfoW Unimplemented action: 4114 (SPI_GETMENUFADE)
fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub
fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub
err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize
Oddly, even setting win98 and running with dcom98 installed,
and ole32/oleaut32/rpcrt4 overridden, it still fails early.
Sometimes it puts up a dialog box for a moment first.
So I no longer know whether this is an ole bug.
I'm setting it back to wine-misc for now.
There are quite a few installer warnings; maybe the app
isn't installed properly? I'll attach a log.

The patch went in here:
http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-July/024451.html
But 0.9.17 was released here:
http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-July/024394.html
So the patch didn't quite make it into 0.9.17; it'll be in 0.9.18.
BTW, the exact messages were
fixme:variant:VarCat types 4 / 3 not supported
fixme:variant:VarCat types 0 / 4 not supported
They are gone with current cvs.
