Summary: Starcraft does not run decently anymore in 0.9.16.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.16.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: z77y16(a)hotmail.com
Starcraft has become incredibly slow in 0.9.16, presumably because of ddraw
changes. The prior version I was using was 0.9.14, in which SC ran ok.
Other users reported similar problems with other games. They could work around
by matching the game bit depth on their display.
This trick does not work with Starcraft. It is an 8bpp game. It never ran on an
8bpp display and it is still true today with 0.9.16. Trying to run SC on a 8bpp
display results in the game crashing. More specifically, the display will remain
black. Waiting for a few secs before killing the display will give Wine the
chance to dump a stack trace.

I went through the trouble of reinstalling the game and there is no doubt UDP
support does not appear in 1.0. To make sure it is not a bug I went on
Blizzard's support site and got the confirmation UDP was added in 1.09:
http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msc0473p
Besides, I would consider the inability to update through bnet and a missing
option as different problems.

Move your .wine away and reinstall with the updated wine. I had a problem with
Warcraft 3 that was solved this way, perhaps this is the same.

winedbg output of starcraft crash
attached is the output of my starcraft error. I usually start the game from a
simple shell script in my $HOME/bin and I have included the contents of that
file as well.

I was using Wine 0.9.8 (latest stable ver in x86/portage (gentoo)) but snd/vid
was choppy in Starcraft/BW-113 so I upgraded to the latest version in ~x86 (0.9.

redrawing... Many scraps in screen.
This program requires a activex in browser and before your download say 'No

Summary: idle waiting in serial emulation?
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.14.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.vandyke.com/download/securecrt/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: molle.bestefich(a)gmail.com
I need SecureCRT for it's terminal emulation and serial port capabilities.
Download at specified URL (enter any random information in the provided
fields).
I connect to a device on COM1 / 115200n81 / vt102.
If the device on COM1 is generating output, for example if I have set it in
a "while [ true ]; do ls -l; done" loop using eg. minicom, then SecureCRT
works fine and is responsive. It does consume 100% CPU though, 50% goes to
SecureCRT.EXE and 50% to wineserver (on a hyperthreading CPU).
If the device does NOT generate any output, then SecureCRT deadlocks. It
doesn't even repaint it's window, and it's unresponsive to mouse and keyboard
events. In this case, wineserver and SecureCRT.EXE also consumes 50% CPU
each.
AFAICG, the thread that runs the message loop doesn't get enough CPU time,
because SecureCRT and Wine is busy idle waiting somewhere in the serial code.
