This is probably fixed in the latest release of Wine. Please retest and report back.

Indeed. Installing DCOM98 didn't help, either.
The +relay log is 600MB... time to break out sed and awk, vi probably
won't quite cut it...

Works for me with wine from git. Please reopen if you still have trouble.

Lots of OLE-looking errors in that log.
Try installing DCOM98 and using that, let us know if it helps.
Is there a freely downloadable demo of this game?

Does this still happen?
If so, does installing and using DCOM98 help?

Seems fixed now, possibly by
http://www.winehq.com/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-July/024527.html
The app doesn't start, but that's another story (see bug 5745).

Is this problem still happening?
(And if it is, are you using a clean .wine directory
with no Microsoft DLLs?)

I have had wine hang the system quite often until I changed from a built in
video card to a AGP one. I think wine is just uncovering bugs not in the normal
code paths of the X driver and or window manager. Some crashs can be recovered
from but wineserver or the app is using 100% of the CPU and it takes a very long
time for the keyboard to respond to the keys and switch to a termial run
wineserver -k
