Summary: Neverwinter Nights 2: Game crashes at a certain point in
the campaign
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.49.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: haukew(a)gmx.de

the errorlog
Neverwinter Nights 2 really works well. I could - except for the map-bug (
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9193 ) play through the campaign to the
point when you take Shandra to the Sunken Flagon
(
http://www.gamebanshee.com/neverwinternights2/walkthrough/shandrasfarm-seco…
). When you are in the Flagon, Shandra says she wants to go to bed. Then the
screen fades out and the game crashes. What should have happened is that the
githyanki attack the Flagon.
I tried this with wine 0.9.48 and 0.9.49, both versions crash.
The game didn't crash one single time before - playing time until this point is
some hours, maybe 5

@Tony The native dll would either have been the one supplied with Wine or from
Windows XP.
@Austin I installed Director MX on Ubuntu 8.04 which comes with wine 1.0 and
the bug did not occur even without any workaround from me. So it seems to be
fixed!
If you'd like to test for yourself do the following (I've augmented my original
instructions a bit):
1) Open Director MX under WINE
1a) Press CTRL+M to bring up the message window
2) In the message window type "put string(0.1)"
2a) Press Return
3) In the output window the output will be '-- "1..0000e-01"'
The output should be '-- "0.1000"'

For me, using wine 1.1.9, the cinematics play (e.g. Frozen Throne intro) but do
not complete. I get:
fixme:quartz:FileAsyncReader_WaitForNext Returned: 258 (000005b4)
err:quartz:PullPin_Thread_Process Processing error: 8004022e
fixme:quartz:MediaPosition_get_CurrentPosition (0x142fd8)->(0x33f298) stub!
with the last line repeating a lot (about 20 times) and then the sequence
cycles back.
I am seeing the same colour issue with the quality degraded. I suspect that
this may be due to 32bpp -> 16bpp colour conversion (or some other colour space
conversion).
This is using the desktop emulation mode (set to 800x600). If I run it
normally, the game renders fine, but when playing the cinematics the screen
flashes for a few moments as it is chaning resolution back and forth, then it
goes back to the campaign screen (no cinematic is played in this case).
