Summary: Civilization IV Expansion pack "Beyond the Sword"
Install Crash
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.41.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mp3elv(a)gmail.com
This is for the latest expansion pack for Civilization IV called "Beyond the Sword".
The main problem is that the install starts fine it requests to select a
language presents the license , and ask if gaming arcade (or something) is to be
installed too, (i select no), then after that it gets ready to install ,
presents a button that says install, and when u click on it the installshield
app crashes, under Windows XP at this part the installer looks for Civilization
IV game and looks around the hard disks to find previous components once thats
done it starts installing its mods and patches.
What i've tried is to change the reported windows version, tried so far Windows
2000 XP 2003 and Vista neither of them worked.
Any solution is more than accepted.
Im running Wine 0.9.41 under ubuntu 32 bits 7.04 Feisty Fawn installshield
engine version is 12.0 , original Civilization IV installshield version was 11.0
, Civilization IV installed and worked without problems.

These behaviors stand for the 0.9.29:
Even with the patch applied the CD music won't work (though the CD seems to be
spinning) leading to a CD error. Just 8-bit midi music works.
The "Credits" option in the main menu leads to a black screen though you can
return to the main menu just by left-clicking anywhere.
The "Quit" option freezes the program.
Any plans to fix this bug (still present in 0.9.41) in the next future in
order to avoid compiling a "parallel" patched Wine?

when taking apart the drawcalls for the frame and dumping the used textures it
shows that the textures containing the font elements like "master level 5.5" are
correct while the next number of calls seem to use a 16x16 fully transparent
texture which explains why nothing is showing up as background slider

Sorry, didn't mean demo. I'm just used to testing demos instead of full games :-).
I'll retry this tonight then.

I would like to renew my offer of a $100 reward for resolving this bug by
September 1, 2007.
Electronics Workbench has been bought out by the National Instruments. There
are changes to licensing schemes, and all support for versions prior to the
current 10.x have been terminated. V.10.x does not install under wine.
Is there any hope that this bug will be resolved? I would like to retire a
Citrix server that runs just this one piece of software for a large Linux-only
installation.
By the way, the access violation error on exit is a bit of a red herring; they
only show up if you kill the window; if you exit through the File menu, all is well.

It updates automatically after the intro video and the splash screen. The
messages appear under the lower left corner of the large green menu box.
For me, it happens every time I start it up. Even if I delete my Wine directory
and do a clean install. (By the way, what do you mean by demo? I'm not aware of
a demo...) I have a Kubuntu virtual machine (same version 'n everything) I'll
test it on.
